Understand SACM vs SOMEXFON

Mexico separates the two royalty layers:

SACM = the composition (songwriter/publisher)

SOMEXFON = the master recording (producer/performer neighbouring rights)

A recording artist who owns their masters needs SOMEXFON in addition to SACM to collect neighbouring rights from Mexican radio, TV, and public performance.

Why this matters

Mexico is one of Latin America's largest music markets. Artists registered only with SACM miss the neighbouring rights collected by SOMEXFON entirely.

Common mistake

Assuming SACM covers the recording. SACM is compositions only — the master/recording side is SOMEXFON.

Register and Submit Your Recordings

Apply at somexfon.com as a performer and/or producer. Provide ID, tax details (RFC if applicable), and bank details, then submit each recording with:

Track title and featured artist

ISRC code

Release year and label (your own name if self-releasing)

Why this matters

SOMEXFON matches Mexican broadcast reports against registered ISRCs. Recordings you do not register cannot be matched to you.

Skipping registration because most of your streams are international. Mexican radio and public performance still generate neighbouring rights that only SOMEXFON collects locally.
