How to register with Sena.

Register with Sena, the Dutch neighbouring rights society, to collect royalties when your master recordings are broadcast on Dutch radio, TV, and in public spaces. Independent artists who own their masters can claim both the performer and producer share.

Register with Sena (Free) — Claim Both Roles if Self-Releasing

Critical — the 50/50 split: For every track, Sena distributes royalties in two equal halves:

  • 50% to musicians/performers (performer share)
  • 50% to the record producer (producer share)

    • If you are an independent self-releasing artist who owns your master recordings, you must register as both a musician AND a producer to collect 100% of your neighbouring rights. Registering only as a performer means you collect only 50%.

    Why this matters

    The 50/50 split between performer and producer is the single most important thing to understand about Sena. Independent artists who don't claim the producer share permanently forfeit half their Sena royalties.

    Common mistake

    Only registering as a performer (musician) and not also as the record producer. Self-releasing artists who own their masters must register for both roles to collect the full 100%.

    Submit Your Recording Catalog with ISRCs

    Submit each recording to Sena with:

  • Track title
  • ISRC code
  • Artist name
  • Release year and label name (your own name if self-releasing)

    • Get your own ISRC Registrant Prefix: Sena can issue you a personal ISRC Registrant Prefix, allowing you to assign ISRCs to your own recordings for life at no per-use cost. This is especially useful if you plan to release frequently.

    Why this matters

    Sena matches Dutch broadcast logs against registered ISRCs. Missing ISRCs = recordings that cannot be matched = royalties that stay in the general pool.

    Common mistake

    Not having ISRCs for older recordings. If your early releases don't have ISRCs, contact your original distributor or apply for a Registrant Prefix and assign them retroactively before submitting to Sena.
