How to register with PPCA.

Register with PPCA (Phonographic Performance Company of Australia) to collect neighbouring rights royalties when your master recordings are broadcast on Australian radio, TV, and in public spaces.

Register as Artist and/or Licensor

Register at ppca.com.au. Free registration for performing artists (Australian citizens, residents, or "protected persons").


Critical distinction for independent artists:

  • Performer registration — covers your share as the featured recording artist
  • Licensor registration — covers the record label share

    • If you own your master recordings (most independent artists do), register as a Licensor — this entitles you to receive both the performer share AND the label share of PPCA royalties.

    Registering only as a Performer means you collect only half the available royalties.

    Why this matters

    Every time your recording plays on Australian commercial radio, ABC, or in venues, a PPCA royalty is generated. Independent artists who only register as Performers forfeit the Licensor share permanently.

    Common mistake

    Registering as Performer only and missing the Licensor (label) share. If you own your masters, you are both the performer and the label — claim both.

    Submit Your Recording Catalog — Before August 31

    Submit each recording to PPCA with:

  • Track title
  • ISRC code
  • Featured artist name(s)
  • Release label (your own name if self-releasing)
  • Release year

    • Annual deadline: August 31. New tracks must be registered by August 31 each year to be included in that year's PPCA distribution. Tracks registered after the deadline are carried to the following year's distribution.

    Why this matters

    PPCA distributes royalties annually. Missing the August 31 deadline for a new release means waiting an entire additional year for that recording's Australian neighbouring rights payment.

    Common mistake

    Not submitting ISRCs. PPCA needs the ISRC to match broadcast logs to your recordings — track titles alone are not sufficient for accurate matching.
