How to register with AKM.

Register with AKM, Austria's performing rights society for composers and publishers (with mechanical rights handled by its partner austro mechana), to collect royalties on your compositions in Austria and internationally.

1

Become an AKM Member

Apply at akm.at. Confirm the current admission/annual fees on their site. Mechanical rights are managed by austro mechana, AKM's partner society — joining AKM is the route to both.

You will need: government-issued photo ID, bank details, and evidence of at least one work.

Why this matters

AKM collects performance royalties from Austrian broadcasters and venues and distributes internationally; austro mechana adds mechanical collection.

Common mistake

Expecting AKM alone to cover mechanicals — those run through austro mechana, which your AKM membership connects you to.

2

Register Your Works

Declare each composition with title, duration, co-writer splits and IPI numbers, and ISRC codes through the AKM member portal.

Why this matters

AKM pays on registered works; ISRCs are needed for streaming matching.

Common mistake

Registering without ISRCs.

After you register

AKM covers performance rights; mechanical rights are administered by its sister organization austro mechana. Austrian recording artists also need LSG for neighbouring rights on their master recordings.

Rekon tracks whether you're actually registered with AKM — and 36 others.

Connect your platforms once and Rekon flags every registration gap automatically, with the exact fix for each.
