Understand ADAMI vs SPEDIDAM

France has two neighbouring rights societies:

  • ADAMI manages rights for featured performers: soloists, conductors, principal singers, and featured artists on recordings.
  • SPEDIDAM typically manages rights for session musicians and secondary performers who served as background artists.

    • If you are the primary artist on your own recordings, ADAMI is the correct society.

    Why this matters

    Registering with the wrong society means your application will be redirected or declined. Featured artists belong with ADAMI — session musicians belong with SPEDIDAM.

    Common mistake

    Assuming you need both societies. Most recording artists need only one. Featured artists choose ADAMI; session/background performers choose SPEDIDAM.

  • Government-issued ID (passport or national ID)
  • Bank account details (IBAN)
  • A list of recordings you are featured on, with ISRC codes where available

    Why this matters

    French law requires radio stations and public venues to pay neighbouring rights on every recording they broadcast. ADAMI collects this on behalf of featured performers — without registration, your share sits permanently uncollected.

    Common mistake

    Not submitting ISRC codes with your recording list. ADAMI uses ISRCs to match broadcast reports to your recordings — title matching alone frequently results in missed payments.

    Submit each recording you are featured on:

  • Track title
  • Artist name
  • ISRC code
  • Release year and label name

    Why this matters

    ADAMI distributes royalties quarterly based on broadcast and public performance reports. Every recording you register increases your potential payout.

    Common mistake

    Only registering your solo catalog and forgetting featured appearances. Any recording where you are the featured artist qualifies — including guest verses and collaborative releases.
