How YouTube pays royalties.

YouTube pays from three genuinely separate sources: YouTube Music streaming royalties (via your distributor, like any DSP), Content ID ad-revenue claims when OTHER people's videos use your music, and YouTube Partner Program ad revenue if you run your own channel. Content ID is not automatic — it requires enrolment through a distributor or dedicated rights-management partner.

Payment model: Three separate systems: streaming pro-rata (YouTube Music), automated ad-revenue claiming (Content ID), and channel ad revenue (Partner Program).
Estimated rate: YouTube Music Premium streams: estimated $0.005–$0.008; ad-supported: estimated $0.0008–$0.002. Content ID: estimated $0.50–$2.00 per 1,000 views on matched videos.

How to collect it

YouTube Music royalties: paid via your distributor, same as any streaming platform.
Content ID: requires delivery to YouTube's rights-management system through an approved Content ID partner — not automatic on release.
Mechanical royalties on YouTube Music streams: register with a mechanical rights body (e.g. The MLC in the US) separately.
